The Government of Sarajevo Canton has adopted the Regulation on the Establishment of the Office of the Government of Sarajevo Canton for Diaspora ("Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton", 25/22), which defines the scope of work and responsibilities of the Office as a professional service of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, as well as other matters related to its functioning.

In order to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and sports, the Office of the Government of Sarajevo Canton for Diaspora, in collaboration with relevant ministries, universities, and other competent authorities and institutions in Sarajevo Canton and local government units, will carry out professional and administrative-technical tasks aimed at connecting with institutions, organizations, and individuals from the diaspora in the aforementioned fields.

The goal is also to encourage and create joint programs, engage in the design and implementation of projects for the participation and cooperation of youth, exchange of students, as well as scientific and professional personnel between Sarajevo Canton and the countries where the diaspora lives.

Among other things, the Office will work on informing our citizens living and working abroad about employment opportunities and conditions in Sarajevo Canton, encourage connections between entrepreneurs and business associations from the diaspora with business entities in Sarajevo Canton, initiate the establishment of targeted financial funds or foundations in cooperation with our citizens living and working abroad, support the work of innovators and innovations from Sarajevo Canton and the diaspora, and encourage the participation of our citizens abroad in promoting the tourist potential of Sarajevo Canton, etc.

The Office's duties will also include encouraging the enrollment and studies of young people from the diaspora under the same conditions that apply to students from Sarajevo Canton, developing opportunities, i.e., establishing a fund for scholarships for students from the diaspora, organizing regular educational visits for young people from the diaspora to Sarajevo Canton, through mutual projects, summer schools, and youth gatherings, etc.

Activities will also focus on encouraging and simplifying the process of return to Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing administrative and technical assistance, services, and information about various procedures related to administration in different areas of life, as well as providing information necessary for the exercise of rights for individuals returning from the diaspora to Sarajevo Canton. The Office will also establish and maintain a Registry of diaspora associations and organizations.
